Oak leaf lettuce (red salad bowl)

A beautiful red variety of oak leaf lettuce that can be sown until winter. The colder the temperature, the redder the leaf becomes. It is a strong grower and very decorative. This lettuce has soft, tender leaves. Salad Bowl is a favourite type of lettuce for many vegetable gardeners. This is because it is easy to grow and is slightly frost-resistant. There is a good chance that you can even harvest in winter.

Sowing oak leaf lettuce

Sow indoors in March and directly in the open ground in April. Lettuce can be sown in a sunny spot, but partial shade is better. Sow in rows with a distance of 30 cm x 30 cm. Thin out if the seedlings are too close together.

Tip

Sow lettuce near strongly scented plants such as onions, garlic or herbs. This will keep slugs at bay.
