Tomato Principe Borghese - Heirloom Seeds
A very old Italian heirloom that has been preserved for generations. The Principe Borghese tomato produces large clusters of oval red fruits. These fruits contain very little moisture and few seeds, making them ideal for drying. Whether fresh or dried, you will experience a delicious, full-bodied tomato flavor. In short, a classic Roma-style tomato that has never been tinkered with.
Sowing
Sow indoors in a warm spot starting from March. You can continue to grow the seedlings in pots or directly in the ground. Give the plants a spot in full sun and ensure they get enough water, especially in the beginning. Do not prune or pinch out anything during or after growth. Due to the weight of the many tomatoes, support may be necessary. Regularly provide fertilizer and calcium (eggshell powder). The plants stay under 100 cm, with fruits roughly the size of an egg.
Drying Tomatoes
When the tomatoes are ripe, cut off an entire cluster and hang it upside down in the sun. That is the traditional Italian way. If the weather doesn't allow for this, they are also delicious from the oven! Cut the tomatoes lengthwise and place them on a baking tray. Drizzle generously with olive oil, rosemary, and salt, then roast them. Delicious with pasta, toasted pine nuts, and soft goat cheese.
