Carrot Longe Rouge Sang - Heirloom Seeds
A unique historical French carrot dating back to the 18th century, featuring stunning, vibrant colors. Deep red/purple on the outside and orange/yellow on the inside. Connoisseurs will appreciate its firm, sweet flesh. The colors of this carrot do not fade after cooking. Carrot Longe Rouge Sang is medium-long, conical, and suitable for dry or less nutritious soils. It is an early, hardy variety that stores well after harvest.
How to Sow This Carrot
No different than any other variety.
The best period to sow carrots is from March through July. Sow directly into the open ground. Choose a sunny spot and loosen the soil thoroughly. Loose soil without obstacles ensures the carrots grow straight. Do not provide too much fertilizer, and definitely avoid fresh animal manure.
Sow the seeds at a depth of about half a centimeter to one centimeter, keeping three to five centimeters of distance between the seeds. Leave 25 to 30 centimeters of space between the rows to allow the carrots to grow properly.
Once the seedlings are two to three centimeters tall, thin them out to prevent crooked or thin roots. If necessary, thin them out a second time later on.
Plant leeks or onions close to your carrots to repel insects.
Fun Fact
Originally, carrots were not orange but purple, white, or yellow. Orange carrots were developed for their color, and legend has it this was done as a tribute to the Dutch Royal House (the House of Orange). A great reason to start growing Carrot Longe Rouge Sang!
