Red onion Rosso di Firenza.

Long red Italian onion from Tuscany. The bottle shape is characteristic of this type. The taste is mild and sweet but becomes spicier as the bulbs ripen longer. So don't harvest too early, tears should well up in your eyes when cutting, as they always did in the past. They can become large shallots that taste especially good raw.

Early to harvest

If you sow in early spring, around the end of March, you can harvest after 4 months. Let the foliage dry out before harvesting. Sow a few more lines in May to enjoy this shallot longer. Fresh from the field, the tastiest! It is a real summer onion, meant to be eaten immediately and not to be stored for a long time.

Sow

Sow thinly in the open ground in rows (line spacing 25 cm and planting distance 20 cm) and cover the seed well with a thin layer of soil and keep it moist. After the young shoots have emerged, do not thin out too much. Fertilize the soil lightly, preferably with compost.
