Leek Carentan

Leek Carentan is a robust old variety. It has a large size with long, snow-white, thick stems and blue/green foliage. This leek variety is suitable for both summer and winter cultivation. In the summer, Carentan grows very quickly and in the winter it is very resistant to cold temperatures. A tasty leek with a high yield due to its size.

Sowing leek

You can sow in the open ground from March to May. Late sowing means harvesting in the autumn/winter. Loosen the soil that has been provided with compost well. Sow in rows and thin out later if necessary. Sowing indoors is also an option, which can be done from January. When the young leek reaches pencil thickness, transplant them 15 cm apart. Keep the soil moist (not soaking wet!) because that is what this variety likes. Place mulch so that the soil does not dry out during warm periods. Leek Carentan can be placed in half shade or in a sunny spot.

To keep the stems nice and white, you can raise the soil around the young leek up to the green foliage.

The neighbours

Leeks like to be next to cabbage, strawberries, celery and carrots. Do not place leeks next to legumes.
