Physalis (golden berry)

Physalis belongs to the nightshade family. It is a strong growing, high-yielding shrub and produces intense yellow-orange colored fruits that grow in a lantern. The physalis is an annual that can be perfectly planted in the vegetable garden or on the balcony. The large orange ripe berries smell like pineapple and taste sweet. You can eat the berries fresh, dried and cooked (jam). Physalis contains a lot of proteins and antioxidants. In the past, this berry was used to cure many diseases including malaria and hepatitis. Physalis is very easy to grow.

Growing Physalis

The seed can be planted directly in the ground or in a large pot. On the windowsill for sowing (from February) is of course also possible. Sow early in the spring, end of March to end of May in very loose soil. The seed is very small so do not sow too deep and keep 30 cm distance from each other. The plant grows to about 70 cm high. Give sufficient fertilizer but no fresh manure.

Tiny

The seeds are yellow and minuscule. This can make it look like there is nothing in the seed bag.
