Pumpkin Trumpet.
Trumpet squash is an almost forgotten variety of pumpkin and that is incomprehensible when you know how much this great pumpkin has to offer! It is a vining plant with large heart-shaped leaves and produces very elongated fruits (when allowed to climb) with a swelling at the end, making them resemble a trumpet. The swollen part contains the seeds. When you let the pumpkin crawl in your garden, the fruits grow in a serpentine manner.
Young edible
The young fruits are light green in color and can be eaten raw once they are around 10 to 15 cm. Around 20 to 35 cm long, just as zucchini are prepared. Botanically it is of course not a zucchini. When the pumpkins turn orange, they are ripe. The flesh is light yellow to orange. Very good quality and with a slightly sweet nut taste.
Good guys
If the fruits are allowed to grow, they can reach a length of up to 150 cm and produce heavy fruits weighing between 1 and 5 kilos. It is better not to eat the very large boys, but to use them for decoration. You can then keep them for a year.
Sow
From mid-March (indoors) or from mid-May outdoors at the destination. Plant distance 100x150 cm. Pumpkins can be grown outdoors without any problems. Give some extra compost every now and then.
