Brussels Sprout (Groningen) - Heirloom seed

Brusselse Spruit (Groningen)

The well-known Brussels sprouts, who doesn't know them. They are the tastiest, easy to grow and very productive. This is a medium-sized variety with dense and full heads. The taste of these sprouts is even better due to the cool temperatures of the late season.

Sowing

Brussels sprouts like alkaline soil, also called sweet soil.

It is a lime-loving plant. If necessary, add some garden lime to your garden soil.

April is a good time to sow, but be careful with frost, then cover the seedlings with straw or a cloth. Under glass you can sow earlier, from March.

Sow thinly in rows in a seedbed. Cover the seed with a thin layer of soil and sprinkle gently with water.

As soon as the seedlings have formed 3 to 4 leaves, separate them from each other at a distance of 15 cm. From mid-May to June, give the young plants their final place at a distance of 50 to 70 cm from each other.

Harvest them young and cook them briefly. Delicious!
