Amish Paste Tomato (heirloom)
A rare and very aromatic red tomato of high quality. Grown by the Amish community around 1800 in Wisconsin America. This Roma tomato tastes spicy and sweet. The plant can grow up to two meters high and produces fruits of around 125 grams until late in the season. Because the fruits contain few seeds, there is more pulp. The yield of this very old variety is very large.
Sowing
It is advisable to sow the Amish tomato early around mid-February to mid-March. You can expect the first fruits from mid-July and that is quite late. Amish tomatoes like warmth so give them the warmest spot in your garden or grow in the greenhouse. Because the plant can grow up to two meters high, it must be well supported. This makes it less suitable for a pot. The plant has few leaves so the fruits get more sunlight to ripen. Tomato Amish is not susceptible to rot.
