Broad bean Super Aguadulce - Seed

Broad Bean Super Aguadulce

An easy-to-grow heirloom variety native to Spain. Very strong and hardy variety that produces many delicious creamy broad beans. The plant makes few demands on soil type or fertilization.

Young!

The beans taste best when you harvest them young. Boil them briefly and immediately cool them in cold water to keep them nice and green. Reheat them if necessary. If it happens that pods have hung on the plant a bit longer, you can double cap them, then they are still fine to eat. Old and oversized beans taste bitter and mealy. You can store broad beans in the freezer, but you can also dry them. Soak the dry beans overnight and cook them in a tasty broth. A surprising taste sensation for the winter!

Sowing

In March and April directly in the open ground. Planting distance 20 cm, row spacing 60 cm. Height is about 125 cm. Sow another 2 or 3 weeks later for a longer crop. You can sow broad beans in October for an extra early harvest at the end of March. The young cuttings are surprisingly strong and hardy.
